Leveraging Reusable Coverage Plan Templates for Recurring Autonomous Field Operations
As someone responsible for managing autonomous field operations, imagine you have several fields requiring the same mowing pattern and schedule throughout the season. Traditionally, planning coverage for each operation separately can be time-consuming and is prone to inconsistencies. With reusable coverage plan templates, you can create a coverage plan once for a field, save it as a template, and then reuse it over and over again. This not only streamlines the planning process but also ensures consistency across your autonomous field operations.
How to Create and Use a Template
Note: Before you can make a coverage plan template for a field, that field must have at least one field boundary associated to it.
Step 1: Creating Your Template
There are two ways to create a new template:
- From scratch: While viewing a field, you should see a button called "templates" which will open up a page with all of your templates for that specific field. From that page, you can create new templates from scratch.
- When creating a new coverage plan within a job: While viewing the coverage planner inside an existing job, you should see the option to "save as template" at the bottom. After saving a coverage plan with this toggle enabled, it will be added to the list of templates for that field.
Step 2: Using Your Template
Templates are field-specific and can only be accessed while viewing an individual field.
- Identify the field: Within vMC, navigate to the field you would like to plan work on and press the "Templates" button while viewing that field. If you already have existing templates, you will see them listed here.
- Select your template: When planning a new operation on a field, review the available templates and choose one from the list by clicking on the "select" button or on the image of the template.
- Select your field operation: Upon selecting your template, you will need to specify the type of field operation you wish to perform. Next, a new job will be created and you .
- Assign your vehicle: Once the vehicle is available and ready to execute a mission on this job, assign your vehicle to the job.
- Create a mission: Create a new mission with your vehicle and select one or more passes from the coverage plan template. After saving the mission - press play!
By utilizing coverage plan templates, you can significantly reduce the time it takes to execute recurring autonomous field operations. This feature is designed with your needs in mind, ensuring that repetitive tasks are not only simpler to execute but also consistently performed to the highest standards.
