Drawing line geometry
Create custom transit paths between field boundaries to reduce manual intervention
The Line tool allows you to draw linear paths that define how your autonomous equipment moves between fields or through your farm. These transit paths are essential for defining safe routes between field boundaries.
When to Use the Line Tool
Use the Line tool to create these types of paths:
Best Use Cases
- Equipment Transit: Routes from staging areas through field entrances
- Between-Field Travel: Paths connecting multiple work areas
When to Use a Different Tool
- Irregular Shaped Obstacles: Use the Polygon tool for irregular shapes
- Small Obstacles: Use the Circle tool for small, round obstacles
- Single Locations: Use the Point of Interest tool for markers and waypoints
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open the Drawing Tools
- Navigate to your field in Mission Control (web-only)
- Select the "geometry" tab
- Click the "Add Geometry" button or the "+" button on the map
- The "Add Geometry" modal will appear with tool options
2. Select the Line Tool
- From the modal, click "Line"
- Line: For planning future routes
- The modal will close and you'll enter line drawing mode
- Your cursor will change to indicate drawing mode is active
3. Draw the Line
- Click once on the map at your starting point (e.g., equipment barn)
- Click additional waypoints along your intended path
- Add waypoints as direction changes
- Double-click at your final destination to complete the path
- You'll see the path distance update in real-time as you draw
Tips for accurate paths:
- Place waypoints near together for smoother turns
- Use fewer waypoints for straighter paths
- Zoom in for precision when drawing
- Maintain 30-40 feet clearance from buildings and obstacles
- Always move in a single direction (don't reverse or zig-zag)
4. Name and Configure the Path
- After double-clicking, a popover will appear:
- Name: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "North Field <> South Field")
- Type: Set as "Transit"
- Click "Save" to create the transit path
5. Verify on Map
- The transit path will now appear on your field map
- Transit is ready for mission planning and autonomous navigation
Editing Existing Transit Paths
- To modify a transit after creation:
- Click the transit line on the map
- Select "Edit" from the popover
- You can:
- Drag waypoints to reposition them
- Click on a line segment to add a new waypoint
- Select a waypoint and press Delete to remove it
- Adjust the entire route as needed
- Click "Save" to apply changes or "Cancel" to discard
Troubleshooting
Cannot Complete Path - Save Button Disabled
Symptom: Clicked double-click, but can't save the path
Solution:
- Ensure you've placed at least 2 waypoints (start and end minimum)
- Try double-clicking more rapidly
- Alternatively, single-click the last point then click "Save" button manually
- Press Enter key after placing the final waypoint
Path Disappears After Saving
Symptom: Saved the path, but it doesn't show on the map
Solution:
- Check that "Transit" layer is visible in map controls
- Zoom out to ensure the path is in the visible area
- Refresh the map view
- Check the geometry list panel - transit may be in "nearby geometries" section
Waypoint Snaps to Wrong Location
Symptom: Click one spot, waypoint appears somewhere else
Solution:
- Zoom in much closer for more precise placement
- Edit the path after saving and drag waypoint to correct position
- Be aware of nearby geometries that might cause snapping
Cannot Select or Edit Path
Symptom: Clicking the path does nothing
Solution:
- Ensure you're not in another drawing mode - cancel any active tools
- Verify you have edit permissions for this field/farm
- Use the geometry list to select the transit by name
- Try refreshing the page if the issue persists
Double-Click Adds Extra Waypoints Instead of Completing
Symptom: Double-clicking keeps adding points instead of finishing
Solution:
- Click twice very rapidly (within 300ms)
- Use alternative method: single-click last point, then click "Save" button
- Check mouse/trackpad sensitivity settings
