How to Shift Passes and Headlands in Coverage Planner

Shift headlands and passes to better match field conditions and reduce compaction from repeated traffic.

Overview

Use Coverage Planner advanced parameters to shift headlands and passes without redrawing the plan. This helps you fine-tune coverage to match field conditions and reduce repeated traffic in the same areas.

Parameter Reference

  • headland_offset_in_m: Shifts headlands in coverage plans and also applies to circular pass coverage plans.
  • pass_offset_in_m: Shifts passes in coverage plans.
  • Values are entered in meters.
  • Values can be positive or negative, depending on the direction you want to shift coverage.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Create your coverage plan

  1. Open Coverage Planner.
  2. Set up your typical coverage plan as usual.
  3. If you are working with circular passes, follow How to create circular passes.

2. Open Advance Parameters and add a key/value pair

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the Coverage Planner panel.
  2. Expand Advance Parameters.
  3. Click + add pair.
  4. Enter one parameter key and one value:
    • Use headland_offset_in_m to shift headlands.
    • Use pass_offset_in_m to shift passes.

Example values:

    • 2.5
    • -2.5

3. Generate and verify the result

  1. Generate the coverage plan.
  2. Confirm that the shift moved in the direction you intended.
  3. If needed, adjust the value and generate the plan again.

4. Save as a template

  1. Save the plan after the result looks correct.
  2. Save it as a template for reuse.
  3. For more information, see Creating coverage plan templates.

Optional: Circular Pass Example

  1. Open a circular pass coverage plan.
  2. Add headland_offset_in_m in Advance Parameters.
  3. Generate the plan and verify the circular pass shift.
  4. Save the plan as a template if you plan to reuse it.

Troubleshooting

The plan did not change or shifted the wrong way

Symptom: Coverage appears unchanged, or it shifts in the opposite direction from what you expected.

Solution:

  • Confirm that the key name is entered exactly as headland_offset_in_m or pass_offset_in_m.
  • Confirm that the value is entered in meters.
  • Reverse the sign (+ or -) if the shift direction is incorrect.
  • Regenerate the plan after each value change.

The template did not keep the parameter

Symptom: The template opens without the offset parameter.

Solution:

  • Confirm that the parameter pair was added before saving the plan.
  • Re-save the plan, then recreate the template.
  • Use the template in a job and verify that the parameter is present in the metadata.
