Send a Vehicle to a Point of Interest

Quickly command your autonomous vehicle to a specific point in the field

As a Sabanto autonomy system operator, you can quickly command an autonomous vehicle to navigate to a specific Point of Interest (POI) in your field, such as a refueling or resupply location. This feature automatically aborts the current mission and creates a direct transit path to the selected POI.

Purpose

  • Refueling/Resupply: Easily send the vehicle to a consistent location for tending (e.g., adding seed or fertilizer).

  • Safety & Weather: Command the vehicle to a safe, pre-defined location to clear a specific area or move the tractor to cover due to poor weather conditions.

Starting from the Point of Interest

  1. View the Map: Ensure you are viewing the single vehicle page that includes your Point of Interest (POI).

  2. Select the POI: Click on the Point of Interest marker on the map to bring up its popover.

  3. Initial the Point-to-Point Mission: In the POI popover, look for the button labeled "Send vehicle here".

  4. Press Play and Confirm:

    • One Vehicle Present: A confirmation modal will appear. It informs you that the current mission will be aborted and the vehicle will immediately navigate to the POI using the shortest available path, accounting for non-traversable holes. Click "Continue".

    • Multiple Vehicles Present (Simplified Scope): If you are in the single vehicle view, a mission is sent to that specific vehicle. The current mission is aborted.

  5. Vehicle Transit: The vehicle's current mission is aborted, and it will begin navigating to the selected POI.


Prerequisites and Constraints

For the "Send vehicle here" option to be available, the following conditions must be met:

  • Vehicle Status & Location: The vehicle must be online and physically located within the field boundary that contains the target POI. If the vehicle is outside of that field's geofence, the option will not be available.

  • Point of Interest (POI) Status: The POI must be saved. The option will not be available for POIs that have not yet been saved.

  • Page Context: This feature is only available on the single vehicle page.

  • POI Visibility: POIs are currently only visible for the field the vehicle is assigned to in a job. We do not currently show POIs for adjacent fields or allow this feature to work with Field-to-Field (F2F) transits.

Troubleshooting

  • Resuming the previous mission: Once the vehicle reaches the POI, the previous mission cannot be automatically resumed. You will need to manually kick off a new mission after it reaches its destination.

  • Transiting between fields: The ability to command a vehicle to a point of interest in an adjacent field is not currently supported. You will need to create a field-to-field transit mission in mission planner to navigate the vehicle between fields.
